20mm is our most-ordered thickness, and it's a good middle ground: thick enough to drive over without flexing, but still light enough that a couple of people can lift and reposition it on site without machinery. If your pit only ever sees foot traffic, you probably don't need this much steel. Have a look at our 10mm or 12mm covers instead. If you're covering something that's going to take excavators or heavy plants, we go up to 50 mm. Tell us what's rolling over it and we'll point you to the right thickness.

We manufacture using BlueScope mild steel, Grade 250 as standard and Grade 350 on request, and every cover is laser cut in-house at our facility in Kings Park. Nothing gets outsourced. The steel comes in, we cut it to your spec, and it's usually out the door within the week.

In practice, pit and trench openings are rarely a tidy 1.2m square. Send us your measurements, and we'll cut to that, including odd shapes, custom hole patterns, welded lifting points, or a non-slip surface if people will be walking over the cover. Get in touch with your dimensions and we'll come back with a quote.

We'll cut steel to whatever dimensions you give us, but we're not across the load your particular pit or trench needs to carry, that's something you or your engineer needs to confirm before ordering. If you're at all unsure what thickness your application calls for, get a structural engineer's sign-off, particularly for anything taking heavy plant or repeated heavy vehicle loads.
