Steel Plates for Driveways

Need to keep a driveway open while the ground underneath is dug up? A heavy-duty steel road plate bridges the trench so cars, utes and trucks can keep getting in and out. Aussie Road Plates sells Australian-made steel plates in the sizes most often used across driveways, and you own them for the next job.

When a driveway plate is used

  • Plumbing, stormwater, sewer or NBN trenches that run across or in front of a driveway
  • Keeping access open while a crossover or driveway is dug out and replaced
  • Covering pits and open excavations next to a driveway entrance
  • Spreading the load of heavy vehicles over a kerb or crossover during building works

Sizes that suit driveways

Thicker 32mm and 40mm plates and 6m x 2.4m plates are also available for heavier vehicles and longer spans.

Choosing the right plate

The plate needs to be wider than the trench with plenty of bearing on firm ground each side, and thick enough for the heaviest vehicle that will drive over it. We don't publish load ratings, because the right thickness depends on the load, the span and the ground. Please have your engineer or traffic management plan confirm the plate before use.

Moving plates safely

Steel road plates are far too heavy to lift by hand. Use an excavator, crane or forklift rated for the weight. A Lock-N-Lift #500F weld-in receiver with the #800F lifting tool gives you a fast, secure lifting point.
