Road plate hire vs buying: which costs less?
Hire charges add up every week, and you pay delivery and pick-up every time. If your job runs longer than a month or two, or you'll use plates again on the next job, buying almost always comes out ahead — and you keep the plates.
- Typical hire: about $180–$450 per plate per week, or $600–$1,500 per month, plus $100–$300 delivery and pick-up (iSeekPlant 2026 rate guide, excluding GST).
- A Sydney example: Camden Hire lists a smaller 2.4m x 0.9m x 25mm plate at $110 a week, delivery extra. After 14 weeks that's $1,540 — more than buying our larger 2.4m x 1.2m x 25mm plate outright.
- Buy outright: 20mm, 2.4m x 1.2m · 25mm, 2.4m x 1.2m · all sizes and prices. Australian made from BlueScope steel.
When hiring makes sense
Hire suits a single project where you don't want to store the plates afterwards. A minimum hire period applies, and we don't hire for very short jobs of a few days — hire rates are quoted to suit the size of the job and how long you need the plates.

- Get a quote — we'll price the hire and, if it's cheaper, show you what buying would cost.
- Delivery — by flat-top truck or Hiab, or collect from our Sydney facility with your own transport.
- Collection — we pick the plates up when you're done.

Is it cheaper to hire or buy road plates?
For anything longer than a month or two, buying is usually cheaper. Weekly hire fees and repeat delivery charges soon pass the price of a plate, and once you own it you can use it on every job after.
Where do you hire road plates?
Hire is available across Sydney and surrounding areas. Outside Sydney, get in touch — or buy plates, which we deliver Australia-wide.
Is there a minimum hire period?
Yes. We don't hire plates for very short jobs of a few days. The minimum period and rate are quoted to suit your job.
How are the plates delivered?
By flat-top truck or Hiab to your site, and we collect them at the end of the hire. You can also pick up from our Sydney facility.
Who checks the plate is right for my site?
We'll help you choose a size and thickness, but the client is responsible for confirming the plate suits their application and traffic loads.
